(2008-07-10) Fellowship barbecue with the FFII in Berlin
The local Fellowship group in Berlin will have a joined barbecue with the FFII on the 10th of July. The meeting will start at 7:30pm in FFII office, which is located at the Malmöer Straße 6 close to Bornholmer Straße. Don't forget to bring you favourite barbecue stuff. If the weather permits, we will go to the Mauerpark at around 9pm. We love to welcome you there.

(2008-07-16) 'How SELF helped building structures for freedom' speech at FKFT
SELF has contributed on various levels to freedom in software and education. The work of the SELF Legal Experts Group (LEG) has helped to evolve a better understanding of Open Standards and provided a reference line for free educational materials. The coordinator of the SELF LEG, FSFE president Georg Greve, will provide an insight on how SELF has helped advance the state of the art, and how the work done in the SELF consortium will provide lasting benefit to the Free Software community. (2008-07-16) 'Licences that support freedom' speech at FKFT
Shane will talk about the types of licence that provide and protect freedoms of use, study, sharing and improvement in both technology and educational text. He will review the main challenges that platforms like SELF may encounter from the legal point of view and what kind of mechanisms help support reliable legal infrastructure. There will be a Fellowship meeting at the FSFE Zurich office from 18:00 until 19:30 on Friday the 18th of July. Some free (as in beer) beer will be provided and all Fellows nearby are invited to attend. It will be a good chance to get to know each other in person, to discuss ways of spreading the word about Free Software in Switzerland, and to generally have a good time. This meeting will be hosted by Shane Coughlan, the coordinator of FSFE's legal activities. However, he promises not to talk about licences unless someone asks. (2008-08-17) 'Who Owns Free Software? The Copyright and Patent Debate' speech at OSiM World, Berlin
Shane Coughlan, Freedom Task Force coordinator at FSFE, will deliver a speech entitled 'Free Software licenses and other questions' at OSiM World at Berlin on the 17th of August. This talk will examine question of ownership, the goal of owning creative work, benefits to consumers and the community and the relationship between ownership and Free Software licences.

(2008-08-19) Official launch of GPLv3 in The Netherlands
Shane Coughlan, Freedom Task Force coordinator at FSFE, will host a three hour workshop entitled 'Licensing questions and Legal issues in the light of GPLv3' for the launch of the GPLv3 at the Univesity of Tilburg, Amsterdam, The Netherlands on the 19th of August. (2008-09-06 a 2008-09-07) Fellowship's stand at the Braderie de Lille, Lille (France)
The so-called "Braderie de Lille" (Lille's flea market) is a big outside-event which has taken place every year since the 12th century during the first week-end of september. chtinux, a Linux User Group which is installed around there, has proposed to the Fellowship to take part in the Braderie. The FSFE, and especially the Fellowship's stand, will get much visibility, since millions of people of numerous nations take a walk on Lille's streets. Come to discover this beautiful city and to eat some Braderie's culinary specialities like clams ! And above all, come in order to support the Fellowship ! For 2008, FSCONS is a collaboration of FSFE, Creative Commons, and Wikimedia Sweden. There will be three tracks (Free Culture, Free Software, Free Content), each lead by one of the main organisers. Shane Coughlan, Freedom Task Force coordinator at FSFE, will deliver a speech entitled 'The Community and Meeting Obligations' for BT at 14:30 on the 2nd of July at Adastral Park in Ipswitch, UK. He will also be present for presentations and workshop sessions to be delivered with other parties on the same day.

(2008-06-24) Irish Fellowship meeting, Dublin
A local Fellowship meeting will be held in Dublin on June 24th. Everyone interested in Free Software is welcome and invited to meet inside The White Horse at 20h00. This will also be the monthly meeting of Irish Free Software Organisation. Expected topics include OOXML, software patents, gNewSense, and the Fellowship. Discussion can take place on the fsfe-ie mailing list.

The twenty-third Austrian Fellowship meeting takes place on 20 June in Vienna. We meet around 18:00 in the Library Room at the Metalab, Rathausstraße 6, first district. The "official" agenda will start at 19:00.

(2008-06-18 a 2008-06-20) Examining the importance of Free Software licenses at IOTC 2008, Ireland
Shane Coughlan will represent FSFE's FTF at IOTC 2008 in Dublin, Ireland. He will deliver a speech to open the conference on Wednesday the 18th of June discussing Free Software in business. Other speakers include Graham Taylor from Open Forum Europe, Adam Jollans from IBM and Stephen McGibbon from Microsoft. Interesting discussions and debates are assured. The Fellowship Group Berlin is meeting on the 12th of June in the NewThinking Store. The meeting will start at 7:30pm in the store, which is located at Tucholskystr. 48, close to Oranienburger Straße. We love to welcome you there.

(2008-06-07) Social event in Zürich - meet the FSFE!
This year's General Assembly of FSFE takes place in Zurich, and as usual, there will be a social event where the members of the General Assembly meet Fellows and other local Free Software supporters.
Around 18:20 the crowd will leave from the FSFE office at Sumatrastrasse 25 and walk through the old town in direction to Bellview.
At 19:00 we will catch a ferry from Zurich Burkiplatz.
At 19:47 the ferry will arrive in Erlenbach where -- due to the weather conditions -- we will continue the evening with a nice dinner at the Restaurant Malabar Garden in Kuesnacht where we expect to be until at least 23:00.

(2008-05-31) Speech "Free Software - Technique, Politics, Economy", Berlin, Germany
On Saturday 31th May 14-15 pm, Matthias Kirschner will give a speech at Linuxtag in Berlin. The talk is about the importance of the four freedoms to use, study, share and improve software and their influence in politics and economy. Target audience are beginners, or people who want to get some ideas how to explain this topic to beginners. The speech takes place at the BusinessForum (EG) and will be held in German. The second eLiberatica takes place on 30 and 31 May 2008 in the World Trade Center Bucharest, Romania.

As in the last years FSFE will be present with a booth (hall 7.2b, booth 122) at LinuxTag 2008. It takes place at Berlin's Expo Center under the Funkturm. FSFE will inform visitors about various aspects of Free Software, like the Freedom Task Force, software patents, the SELF project, GPLv3, our work in the United Nations, or the Fellowship of FSFE. (2008-04-11) European Licensing and Legal Workshop
FSFE's Freedom Task Force will host the first European Licensing and Legal Workshop for Free Software on Friday the 11th of April in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The venue for this meeting is the InterContinental Amstel Hotel. The event is targeted towards large projects and medium to large enterprises wishing to discuss their existing licence compliance processes. Parties attending are expected to contribute to issues ranging from process development through to optimising purchasing contract language for the benefit of the European Free Software community. (2008-03-29) First Fellowship meeting in Augsburg
Friday, 29 March, the first Fellowship meeting in Augsburg will take place.
We are going to meet in the "Thing" bar, Vorderer Lech 45, 86150 Augsburg, right after the GNU/Linux infoday Augsburg. We expect to be there around 18:30.
Anybody who does not know Augsburg very well or is at the GNU/Linux infoday anyway can just come to the FSFE booth at the end of the event, we can then go to the meeting together.

Shane Coughlan, FTF coordinator, will deliver a speech entitled 'Analysing Whether GPLv3 Has Improved Free Software Licensing' at OSiM USA on Tuesday the 12th of March in San Francisco. The speech will cover topics ranging from the creation of GPLv3 and its place in licensing through to examining the place of GPLv3 in tomorrow's market.

FSFE attends FOSDEM, a European Free Software developer conference organized by volunteers wich takes place from 23rd - 24th of February in Brussels (Belgium).
The event promotes the widespread use of Free Software, to provide Free Software developers and communities a place to meet, to get in touch with other projects, and to promote the development and the benefits of Free Software solutions.

(2008-02-18) Richard Stallman Speech about Free Software Philosophy and History in Berlin, Germany
On Monday 18. February at 19:00 Richard M. Stallman, founder of the GNU project and the FSF, will give a speech at the mediacentre - Atrium, Johannisstrasse 20, in 10117 Berlin-Mitte. He will talk about the history and philosophy of Free Software. The Berlin Fellowship group will have a small booth there and inform visitors about the local groupd and FSFE's work in Germany and Europe. Admission starts at 18:30. (2007-11-28) Fellowship meeting in Düsseldorf
The Duesseldorf Fellowship group proudly announces its next meeting on 28 November at 19:30 in the Pub "Südstern", Bilker Allee 66 in Düsseldorf. Shane Coughlan, the coordinator of the Freedom Task Force, will talk about Free Software licensing, business processes, and how the Free Software movement has moved deep into the mainstream of ICT deployment. Werner Koch will report about a public debate in the parliament of NRW regarding Security versus Freedom.

(2007-11-26) Fellowship meeting in Nijmegen/NL
Shane Coughlan, FSFE's Freedom Task Force coordinator will be in Nijmegen on the 26th of November and we wish to propose a Fellowship Meeting at 6:00 pm that evening in Cafe Jos.
Shane Coughlan will talk about the work of the Freedom Task Force, and discuss current events in Free Software legal activities in Europe.
Rainer Kersten, a fellow from Duesseldorf will talk about the experiences of the Rheinland Fellowship group.

(2007-11-16 a 2007-11-21) SFScon 2007 + FSFE Fellowship meeting
As for the 2006 edition, this year's SFScon – the annual South Tyrol Free Software conference – will be followed by the FSFE Fellowship meeting.
Both events will take place in Meran/o (South Tyrol, Italy), from November, 16th to 17th and from November, 18th to 21st respectively.

(2007-11-11 a 2007-11-13) IGF side events
A number of Free Software related events will happen around the Internet Governance Forum in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.
On 11 November, a discussion oriented conference with the title "Digital Inclusion: Accelerating Global Participation and Access through Open ICT Standards" takes place from 8:30 to 17:30.
The Dynamic Coalition on Open Standards sponsors an Open Workshop titled "The Intersection of Open ICT Standards, Development, and Public Policy" on 12 November from 15:30 to 17:00, and a Best Practice Workshop on "Open ICT Standards for Greater Citizen Access: Best Practices in Government Policy and Procurement Practices" on 13 November from 16:30 to 18:00.
All these events take place in the Windsor Barra Hotel.

FSFE will have a booth at the Come2Linux, which takes place from 10 to 11 November in Essen, Germany. On the 8th of November, the FSFE and its Freedom Task Force (FTF), in collaboration with the Internet Academy in Sweden, will give a course on Strategic implementation of Free Software in businesses. The course will take place in Stockholm, Sweden and given predominantly in Swedish.

On the 3rd of November, Shane Coughlan from FSFE will speak at elce2007 about the business advantages inherent in Free Software and describe the licences that facilitate the freedoms it delivers. He will discuss the processes that help companies ensure they maximise benefit and minimise liability in Free Software deployment. Shane Coughlan will deliver two talks at LinuxWorld NL. The first will take place on the 31st of October and discribe the work of Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE) and some of our current projects. On Thursday June 7, 2007 at 3:30 pm in the V G Kulkarni Auditorium at Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) in Mumbai, India, Georg Greve gives a talk about Free Software and science.
Free Software and science share common roots, and benefit society in several similar ways. In his talk, Mr Greve will explain the concept of Free Software and how it relates to maintaining our scientific basis as a society. As a practical example of this collaboration, the talk will give a brief introduction of the Science, Education and Learning in Freedom project, in which the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research plays a crucial role. The sixth Austrian Fellowship meeting takes place on 17 November in Vienna. We meet around 18:00 in the Lounge at the Metalab, Rathausstraße 6, first district. The "official" agenda will start at 19:00.
Some of the Fellows that have been on the first international Fellowship meeting in Bolzano will be there to report from that event. The Freedom Task Force which was presented there will also be a topic for the evening.

The Grand Jury of the EU Court of Justice is ready for the big hearing on the Microsoft Antitrust Case. For the second part of World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO)'s Intersessional Intergovernmental Meeting, FSFE will again send a delegation to Geneva. In coordination with other Civil Society Actors, FSFE will work to direct WIPO's work towards increasing intellectual wealth and addressing the needs and demands of Free Software.

(2005-04-11 a 2005-04-15) WIPO Meeting on Development Agenda
From 12. April to 15. April, the FSFE will participate in the inter-sessional intergovernmental meeting of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in Geneva. As only permanent observers were invited to participate, most Civil Society organisations will not be allowed to attend this highly critical meeting on the future agenda of WIPO. The FSFE delegation so far consists of Georg Greve, Karsten Gerloff and Volker Grassmuck. Together with other Civil Society actors, they will work to see WIPOs mission reoriented towards increasing intellectual wealth and see Free Software questions properly addressed.
